Overview.
Your agent reads the Spend Graph as MCP tools: it asks a question, calls the tool, and gets back what Americans spent, by merchant, category, place and day. Sign up and connect your agent in about two minutes. An agent with no account can still pay per call.
Get credits.
Sign up with Google or your email. Every account starts on Free, with no card. Connecting signs you in, and that finds it. There’s nothing to paste.
- Free: 50,000 credits a month, reset on the 1st (UTC)
- Pro: $100 a month for 100,000 credits, and top-ups from $10 when you need more
Every plan reads the newest data we have. Upgrading keeps the same key: it picks up the new plan on its next call.
Connect your agent.
Claude and ChatGPT: add American Spend with this URL, as a custom connector in Claude or a custom plugin in ChatGPT, then sign in to American Spend when the app asks. Signing in finds yours. On a Team or Enterprise workspace, only an admin can add it, so check before you pay.

Claude Code is one command. The first call opens a browser and asks you to sign in.
claude mcp add --transport http AmericanSpend https://platform.americanspend.com/mcp
Codex is one command. The first call opens a browser and asks you to sign in.

Antigravity takes this config in mcp_config.json. Antigravity asks you to sign in to American Spend when you authenticate the server.

What a call costs.
A data call costs 100 credits. Looking up a merchant costs 1 credit. Checking coverage is free. A call that fails costs nothing. A credit is a tenth of a cent, on the plan and in a top-up alike.
Limits and errors.
Errors come back as one sentence your agent can read out to you, over MCP and REST alike.
- Out of credits (402): on Free, how to start Pro; on Pro, how to top up
- Too many calls (429): Free allows 60 calls a minute and Pro 600; the response says when to try again
Without an account.
An agent with no account can pay per call over x402, the open standard for paying over HTTP. It asks, gets back 402 Payment Required with the price, pays and asks again. A data call costs $0.50 and a merchant search $0.05, coverage is free, and the data runs 30 days behind. Anyone coming back is better off with an account: sign up free.
